5/24/13.
I broke your jaw with a too-long look masquerading as a red-gloved right hook when what I meant to say with words was You’re talking but you’re not saying much.

Perks of this job (though I have to find a new one...
spandex as pants (admittedly, to a certain degree)
snacks all the time (well, the right to snacking - I have to provide my own)
free books
some great junk mail (the kind you’re surprised to find you actually want)
free copies and scans and sending stuff in the mail!
the constant fear that I’ll never get another job since I graduated last week and everyone has the same...

2218: a room with a view.
I lean my head against the wall outside of her hotel room. It all but cracks against the wallpapered ruin, the moment when time begins and ends and threatens to begin again. I touch the floor with a bare ankle, graze the place where I wish I could sleep. I slide down into a sitting position, cradle the phone between my cheek and chest and wait for you to answer. You don’t interest me, except...

"Long Point Light" by Mark Doty. →
Here is the world you asked for, gorgeous and opportune, here is nine o’clock, harbor-wide, and a glinting code: promise and warning. The morning’s the size of heaven. What will you do with it?

Help send me to writer camp this June. →
Since I got into the nonfiction/memoir workshop this June with Paul Lisicky, I have to find a way to actually get my ass from San Francisco to Amherst.
You can help! For $5, pick a word, any word, and I’ll write you its haiku.

Creative Nonfiction/Memoir Workshop with Paul Lisicky:
“The ideal writing workshop is a place where a variety of forms are encouraged and respected, where we attempt to create a version of a model literary community: a thriving ecosystem, as Richard Powers might call it, rather than a monoculture. It requires an openness at every turn, a dedicated generosity, and a willingness to consider...

Buy the ticket, ride the 5.
At the bus stop, the girl beside me ashes on one of the seats. I’ll be sick if I inhale, but I’m all out of breath. I open my mouth and let her stale ash in. I let the dryness out. I sit the half-eaten burrito in a plastic bag on my lap. We’re both wearing white tank tops and black bras, only mine is inside-out and hers is ribbed, tight, and discolored.
On the bus, I get stuck...

Graduation, 5/17/2013.
The dress is perfect. In the fitting room, it feels as if it’s wearing me - my skin tucked into its bones, my movements encased in its rhythmic dance. I can picture it with heels, see it hunched over in my seat at graduation. I can almost feel their arms on me as we pose for pictures. I can almost feel a lot of things.
I wish I could explain about being on the fence, or the idea that...
